The following document touches on a number of topics that will help you get started with your Progressive Networks hosting services. It explains how your directory structure is set up, what usernames and passwords to use for things like email, and a few misc. topics as well. For more specific information, please view all available technical support options.
Uploading files can be done with your favorite FTP client. The information you'll need to connect to your account is:
If you have a paid domain account, hostname is the full domain name you picked when signing up for paid hosting services ( such as www.yourdomain.com ), and username.f2o.org for free f2o accounts. Use the password and username you registered with for authentication. If you've forgotten your password, the Account Manager can reset it. Otherwise, email us and a new one will be sent to you.
There are two directories you'll see when you log in: logs and www. The logs directory is where the log files for your web site are stored. These log files are rotated on a monthly basis, and only the previous month's log files will be kept for you automatically. If you'd like to keep an archive of monthly log files, it's recommended that you create a separate directory in which to store them (as long as you're under your disk space quota!), or move them to your personal computer or another server.
The www directory is the top level of your WWW files. Inside that directory, you'll see a directory called yourdomain.com_html (for paid accounts, assuming yourdomain.com is the domain(s) name you host with Progressive Networks) or public_html for free f2o accounts, which is called your "web root" directory. Any files placed in the "web root" directory will be available on your web site. If you wanted a file called foo.html to be available on your web site as http://username.f2o.org/foo.html, you'd place it in the public_html directory.
Likewise, if you wanted a new file named contact.html to be available on your paid domain as http://www.yourdomain.com/contact.html, you'd place it in the corresponding "web root" directory, such as yourdomain.com_html. Of course, you have the ability to create subdirectories as well.
Remember, anything you put in your "web root" directory will be accessible on the Web! Please visit the Apache FAQ for more info on configuring such things as directory access and .htaccess.
For free f2o accounts, any email address sent to @username.f2o.org will get sent to you, including username@username.f2o.org. That means fake_address@username.f2o.org, info@username.f2o.org, or spam@username.f2o.org will get sent to your Inbox. Likewise, if you have a paid domain account, anything@yourdomain.com will be forwarded to your master account. Visit the email FAQ for more information on configuring and using your email account, as well as the paid domain account FAQ if you have a paid domain account.
Paid domain accounts can add/remove mailboxes to their domains through the Account Manager as well.
Once you've got your email set up, you can access it in a couple different ways. The first and most common is via POP3. Simply enter username.f2o.org as the incoming POP3 server if you have a free f2o account, or mail.yourdomain.com as the incoming POP3 server for paid domain accounts. Then use your regular login information when prompted for username and password. The outgoing SMTP server will have to be set to your ISP's outgoing SMTP server unless specific arrangements have been made in advance.
There is also a Hotmail-like webmail interface available for those of you who prefer that method to access your email. Simply head to http://hostprogressive.com/email/ and provide your login information when prompted.
If you have questions about your email setup, or want to report a problem, please report it in the community support forums or file a support ticket through the Account Manager.
Managing your MySQL database is easy thanks to phpMyAdmin, a web-based database management tool. You can access phpMyAdmin by logging into the Account Manager and clicking on the "Manage MySQL" link. Please see the phpMyAdmin FAQ for further information about using phpMyAdmin.
