f2o.org provides paid domain hosting, email list hosting, and offers a wide variety of additional features to people and organizations looking for hassle-free hosting with personal support and an impressive feature list at a fraction of the cost of 'big name' hosting companies. f2o.org is an advertisement-free service and is based upon openness, sharing, and cooperation. f2o.org is about giving the Internet community the "Freedom to Operate"!
f2o.org offers quality web hosting with personal and timely support in a friendly community setting.
We offer several paid hosting packages, all of which include Cold Fusion MX, PHP4, ASP, Perl, Python, & MySQL served up from a redundant backbone peered network. Our support is timely, friendly, and personal - no auto-responders! Visit our hosting page to find out more!
We also offer free web hosting that includes: An f2o.org subdomain (e.g. yourname.f2o.org) with support for ASP, ColdFusion, PHP, Perl, Python, MySQL, FTP access, email accounts, phpMyAdmin to manage your MySQL database, 75MB of space, and up to 3GB of bandwidth transfer/month. Oh, and everything is advertisement and pop-up free. To see if we're currently accepting free account applications, visit the hosting services page.
Feel free to use your account for whatever strikes your fancy. Weblogs, bulletin boards, and testing space are popular choices. We tend to favor developers who are looking for stable, fast, no-BS hosting for their sites, but the service is open to anyone.
Sites which contain pirated or copyrighted software, music, or other works are not permitted. "Hate sites", mp3 archives for your friends, pornographic material, or other objectionable material is not permitted either. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Please read the Terms of Service for more information.
Our Privacy Policy is available for your review. Please take a minute to read it before you sign up for hosting, and contact us if you have any questions. The basic gist - we won't sell or give away your personal data. Ever.
We offer the majority of support through our Web based Support Forums. This is the first and best place to go when you're having problems with your account, or just have general questions. For current account holders, we offer a Web based support ticket system through our Account Manager, and of course, you can always contact us directly.
Ask yourself if your current provider's promise of 24/7 extends beyond an automated "We'll get back to you in 48 hours" email reply. We pride ourselves on excellent uptime, but if a problem does arise, please realize that your query is being handled by a real human being who can actually fix your problem (usually within minutes) instead of just sympathizing with you, providing excuses, and promising to 'escalate' you when they can.
The majority of the services provided by f2o.org are housed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux boxes with 1.5 - 2.0GB of memory, dual 3Ghz CPU's, and a combination of RAID5 and RAID1 disk arrays. Our paid accounts reside on redundant multiple Gigabyte backbone networks, and free accounts have a single T1 connection through Qwest that sits one "hop" off the Internet backbone.
We have a huge amount of innovative ideas planned for the short-term future. A couple include a planned "Real Unix OS" of your own (via VMWare) where people can learn to use a variety of Unix operating systems without having to go through the hassle of installing or maintaining them! We've also got plans for a partnership with a "Virtual University" where we'd provide everything a "student" would need to learn and to advance their skills in a particular course. While we've got lots of great ideas, we'd love to hear any ideas you have too, so contact us with your ideas for f2o.org!
No problem! If you've had a free account with us for a while, and want to move a domain name here as well, we'll be happy to set it up so both your f2o.org account and domain name can be managed by you. We don't have a limit on the number of domains you can host with us, and each domain has its own transfer and quota limits (e.g. you.f2o.org is one domain, yoursite.com is another domain, and anothersite.net is yet another domain). While you can host as many domains as you'd like here at f2o.org, we can only allow one free account per person. Visit the hosting services page for more information.
SSL is currently supported for paid accounts, but not for those who have free accounts with f2o.org. If you'd like to SSL enable your web site, file a support ticket through the Account Manager!
First, visit the hosting services page to see whether or not we're currently accepting free accounts. Due to resource availability, we can't accept free account applications on a constant basis. If you're interested in finding out when we will accept free account applications, sign up for our monthly newsletter. It only takes a minute!
We have extensive documentation to help you get started with your new account. The Getting Started FAQ page will introduce you to your new f2o.org account, and should get you up and running quickly. For more specific information on using your account, please browse the entire list of FAQs we have available!
Please have a look to see if your problem is covered in one of our FAQs first. Chances are yours is a common problem and is addressed in one of the FAQs. Next, head over to the Support Forums where you can interact with other f2o.org users and administrators. If you're still having problems, log in to the Account Manager and file a support ticket. Finally, use the Contact Form if you can't resolve your issue anywhere else.
The Getting Started FAQ and Apache FAQ pages have all the information you need to access, update, and configure your account. To manage other aspects of your account, log in to the Account Manager to view your quota usage, change your contact email address, manage MySQL, and even add/delete email accounts if you've got a paid domain hosting account!
Paid accounts have between 10 - 100Gb of data transfer per month, and 150 - 500mb of disk space available. Free accounts are limited to 3GB of data transfer per month and have 75MB of disk space for your Web, email, and database files. If you'd like to bump up the limits of your free account or increase any aspect of your paid domain hosting, visit our hosting services page for pricing and to sign up.
Please read the f2o.org email FAQ.
Believe it or not, there's no hidden agenda. We just happen to be a group of people who have the resources and time to share with the Internet community. For example, if you were a developer and didn't have to worry about maintenance, bandwidth, or anything else related to your hosting space, how much more cool stuff would you be able to do instead of spending time and energy on your hosting details? When people are free to focus on what they enjoy doing, good things happen, and we'd like to provide a place for you to do exciting, fun things on the Web. We want to give you the "Freedom 2 Operate"!
We're real people who want to share what we have - not a fly-by-night operation that only wants to host your site so they can serve as many banner ads and annoying pop-ups/unders as possible to visitors of your site. We don't sell advertising space and we don't sell your personal information (see our Privacy Policy). We aim to provide a fast, reliable, feature-filled hosting service. The money we make off our paid hosting services also enables us to provide free web hosting for deserving individuals and organizations.
It could be for any number of reasons. Remember that we're here to provide the best free hosting service possible. Sometimes, that means limiting the number of accounts we have to ensure the service remains fast and responsive for everyone. Sometimes, an account didn't meet our Terms of Service. Remember that we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. If you'd like to plead your case, feel free to Contact Us.
Again, it could be for any number of reasons, but most likely it was due to a violation of our Terms of Service. However, before we suspend or remove an account, we'll send a notification of any issues via email, and a period of time to resolve them. If resolved, everyone's happy. If not, we'll remove the account. Again, we will make every effort to work with members before removing accounts. Contact Us if you have specific inquiries.
Banner ads are not permitted on free accounts. f2o.org doesn't charge you for the free services we provide. As such, we don't think it's right for people to make money off something we're providing for free. Paid domain accounts are free to run banner ads on their sites, however.
f2o.org is run by a loose-knit network of developers, and was dreamed up in May 2002 by Russ Jungwirth & Daniel Cody. To find out how you can help out behind the scenes, check out the Contribute FAQ!
Anyone who's looking to abide by some simple Terms of Service and is excited about the possibility of fast, reliable, ad-free hosting is eligible! While we don't guarantee that everyone who signs up will become a part of the international f2o.org community, we encourage anyone who is interested to apply! Remember to let us know why you'd make a good addition to f2o.org (it helps!).
We have a large number of individual and corporate web sites who choose to host with f2o.org.
f2o.org is currently located in Milwaukee, WI.
