What email services are provided?

Progressive Networks provides email hosting and forwarding services to its members. Account email is accessible through our webmail interface, any standard POP3 email client like Outlook Express or Eudora, and via IMAP which is supported by a wide variety of email clients.

What is my email address?

Paid Accounts:
  • When your paid domain hosting is first set up, all email will be forwarded to the account name you choose when ordering your paid hosting service (this is the same username and password you use to log in via FTP), which is commonly refered to as a 'catch-all' address. To retrieve the email, simply follow the directions in the next question below. To add email accounts to your paid domain service, follow these directions in the Paid Account FAQ.
Free f2o Accounts:
  • If your f2o username is "joe", you also have a catch-all address configured by default and the following email addresses will get sent to your account: joe@f2o.org, joe@joe.f2o.org, and anything_you_want@joe.f2o.org. Any email sent to joe.f2o.org will get forwarded to joe's account, which is handy for trapping spam and filtering email. That technique will only work for @joe.f2o.org, and not @f2o.org in general.

How do I check my email?

There are three different ways to check your email: webmail, POP3, and IMAP. To check your email through the Yahoo Mail-like webmail interface, simply head to https://www.f2o.org/email/ and supply the appropriate username and password when prompted. Once you're logged in, there are a number of configuration options for you to choose from, so consult the documentation that's available once you've logged in.

Paid Accounts:
  • Please reference the Paid Account FAQ for more information on checking your email accounts.
Free f2o Accounts:
  • The POP3 and IMAP options are set up in the same manner. Enter your email client's configuration or setup dialog (this is different for every email client, please consult your particular client's documentation for detailed instructions on adding a new account) and you should see four primary fields you'll need to fill in. "Username", "Password", "Incoming POP3/IMAP Server", and "Outgoing SMTP Server". Your f2o.org username and password will be used for the first two fields, "Incoming POP3/IMAP Server" should be filled in with mail.f2o.org. The "Outgoing SMTP Server" is the outgoing SMTP server that your ISP provides for you. Except in rare cases, f2o.org will not provide Outgoing SMTP Services for POP3/IMAP clients.

If you're using the IMAP option, your email client may ask for an "IMAP Server Directory" setting or something similar. If you want to be able to use both IMAP and webmail, set this field to ".webmail/" without the quotes of course.

How much storage space do I get for email?

Email storage is counted as part of your total account quota. Depending on which plan you signed up for, you have between 250Mb-1Gb of space. Free f2o.org accounts have 75MB of disk space.

How many email addresses do I get?

Paid Accounts:
  • It depends which plan you signed up with. If you log into the Account Manager your domain overview will tell you how many available email accounts you have and how many are in use.

Free f2o Accounts:
  • Although yourname@f2o.org and yourname@yourname.f2o.org are the standard email addresses, anything you send to @yourname.f2o.org will get forwarded to you. Examples include info@yourname.f2o.org, contact@yourname.f2o.org, or virtuallyanythingelse@yourname.f2o.org!

What is the incoming POP3/IMAP server?

The incoming POP3/IMAP server is mail.yourdomain.com or yourname.f2o.org for free f2o accounts.

What should I use for the outgoing SMTP server?

You should use the Outgoing SMTP Server your ISP provides for you. In some cases, your ISP will not allow email from an address other than itself to be relayed; however, and you may have to find an alternate Outgoing SMTP provider, or use the webmail interface to interact with your email.

Is there a limit on the number of emails I can send or receive through my account?

There is no limit, although we will halt anyone's account who we feel is abusing the system. If you have to send out a couple hundred emails a day, that's great. If you are sending out a couple hundred SPAMs a day, that's not great. Please read the Terms of Service for more information.

I'd like to set up some aliases for my account, where can I do that?

Please use the contact form to get in touch with an administrator who can set up aliases for your account.

What is the path to Sendmail?

Sometimes scripts need to know the path for the Sendmail application to work correctly. If you have a script like that, or just want to know where Sendmail resides, use the following path: /usr/sbin/sendmail
